Dump of the Week
Dump : Sky's coverage of rugby Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 09:59

Well with the All Blacks giving the dirty Convicts one in return you'd think we'd all be pretty happy.

Unfortunately, some of us (or I) have time to be grumpy with other stuff and feel the need to share. And I'm not talking about how dumb Nisbo or Mex sound sometimes, or even a lack of lithe young cheerleaders. I'm not going to bag those one-eyed whinging blowflies-in-a-glass-jar talking twerps Kearns and co. Nope, couldn't give a stuff about 'em. I fired up this weekend while watching the game because of the bullshit camera angles Sky fed us.

Fish, Barrels, and Radio Sport. Print E-mail

smashed_radio Last week, I bashed out a short article about Radio Sport for my blog, which Bart was good enough to post on The Silver Fern. The next thing I know, he emailed to say Matt Gunn responded on his show. Honestly, the adrenaline was flowing faster than Floyd Landis at his doctors as I loaded up the clip.

"Gutless Scumbags... Softcocks, basically, is the only category that I can put you into... Just like me, you rate highly in the dickhead stakes... I wish I could headbutt that person"...

What's wrong with Radio Sport? Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 09:59
Have you LISTENED to it lately? Fresh back from my OE in 2001, I was very excited to learn there was a dedicated sports radio station - "They even play the sports news first on the hour!" Yes, you could listen to Cricket commentary alright, but it promised a whole new world of sports talk, led by Martin Devlin in the mornings. Informed, opinionated, quick witted, he was passionate about NZ sport, obsessed with Man United, and didn't take any shit. He rightly hauled Kevin Roberts (or 'KR') over the coals for saying winning the Tri Nations was more important than the World Cup for All Blacks fans. That's the kind of utter shit the Rugby Union expects us to believe, and I loved hearing someone actually calling them on it. The first nail in Radio Sport's coffin was when Devlin left to do Radio LIVE, and hang out with Mike King full time.

Open Letter to S Jones, esq. Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 09:59
Sir/Madam,

I struggle to imagine what New Zealand must have done to your rugby columnist Stephen Jones for him to continue to slander All Black rugby with his bitter and twisted tirades. But Freud would have a field day.

The All Blacks are ranked by the IRB as the number one rugby team in the world. Yet the increasingly paranoid sounding Jones, in his every article about their victories, manages to zoom in on something to suggest they are not there on merit.

His latest slander is that their initial Tri-Nations victory over Australia was due to bad refereeing decisions. The fact is the Wallaby sinbinned had been warned twice by the South African referee about killing the ball and, when caught infringing a third time, talked back to the ref and was rightly ordered off for 10 minutes.

Dump : Stu Wilson Print E-mail

Stu Wilson : Photosport.co.nzNice one Stu?  Not even, time to go!

Isn't it sad, when a once great footballer carries on living his life as if anyone actually gives a shit about what he did back in the seventies and eighties?  Well, we're getting it first hand, and have been since the early nineties.

Yes,
Stuart Sinclair Wilson, the saddest of the sad gits when it comes to being funny (or trying, and failing miserably) when presenting on Sky TV pre and post game, and on the rugby shows.  He is no longer funny, is he ever was, although perhaps as an after dinner speaker he was.  But Stu has got to remember, talking to a rugby club or the like, is a tad different than from being beamed into lounges throughout New Zealand and the world.  For starters, all the viewers are not riupped off their tits after their 15th handle, and are looking and witing for some insightful outpourings.  But no, we get the same raw sewage spewing from Stu week after week and year after year.

Dump : Commonwealth Games Team Print E-mail

Willis wins gold : Photosport.co.nzThis weeks dump, the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team.

What a major disappointment!

Just 5 gold medals, in a total of 31, backed up with 33 fourth placings!!

That is down from 45 medals 4 years ago in Manchester, and well down on the 50+ that were predicted by SPARC, and the media, and the man at the corner dairy two streets over from work.

Over the course of the games, we Kiwi’s where left with very little 'feel-good factor'.
The netballers winning at least put a brighter finish to the whole sorry mess.
Our rugby sevens performed above expectation, seeded 3rd or 4th, but putting in, literally, a gold medal performance.

Dump : Brian Lara & Company Print E-mail

Brian Lara : Photosport.co.nz This week Brian Lara and the whole West Indies cricket team very deserving of a dump.

What a sad week for any cricketing purist, and even for the casual fan like Willie.

OK ,we know the Windies are not the team of a couple of decades ago, when a seemingly endless string of 6ft 6inch giants terrorized the worlds batsman with wicked pace and bounce.  Then followed by great batsman that would score 300+ runs in a day when it was unfashionable.  We all knew that, the same as we all expected our Black Caps to win the one day series comfortably, with Chris Gayle the only really proven performer in the Windies lineup.

The Other Code gets Willies V3 “Dump of the Week”...

Rugby League in this country has forever had a crap reputation and sadly this past week has been no exception.  The code has always been known here as the working class game – or worse a game played and followed by gang members and other low lives. It has forever been in the shadow of Union, in terms of sponsors, playing numbers, club rooms, crowd attendances, community involvement, TV coverage, school participation, refereeing quality, and quality competitions, and this week has seen the Warriors shoot themselves, and league in the foot.

Dump : Chiefs Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 09:59
Photosport.co.nzYeap you guessed it, it had to be, “Dump of the week vol 2” goes to the entire Chiefs franchise.

From Coaches to Management to Players this sorry excuse for a professional rugby franchise need to take a very very long hard look at themselves!!

I have never witnessed a game in which any team (club, provincial or international) has dropped so much pill, thrown so many ill advised off-loads, and blown a 16-9 half-time buffer against a 14 man opposition. It was such a total embarrassment I’m sure the TAB are looking into the game for “match-fixing” purposes.  Not only where the Chiefs lacking any apparent game plan but other questions around this team need highlighting.
